How do you keep your head above the clouds and joy in your heart? It starts with mindset, which is your attitude and way of thinking. Until you figure this principle out you my find yourself sinking, gasping for breath, especially in difficult times.

I hear people talking about the recession, the media fixated on the negative events in the world, and people consumed by fear and uneasiness. Are you tired of all this negativity? Is the weight of the world getting too heavy to carry, and have you worried yourself to sleep too many nights? Are you ready for a breath of fresh air?

Start with changing your mindset. You might say, “Yeah, but I’ve lost my job. Money is tight. I can’t be successful in this town. It’s too hard to meet anyone around here.” I’m aware of the fact that the economy has slowed and times are tricky, but I promise you that thinking about it or talking negatively of it won’t do you any good.

You see, our mind is extremely powerful and our body becomes trained to respond to our thinking. Your sub-conscious mind moves at an alarming speed and is in constant action. This means your sub-conscious is always moving you in a direction. Be sure it isn’t moving in a negative direction.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “I should do that” then before you know it you’re barraged with an onslaught of thoughts reminding you of your past mistakes, failures and reasons why you can’t. It’s because your sub-conscious mind is not properly trained. Just like we train our muscles we must also train our brains. You may not always be able to control the first thought that enters your mind, but you can train the second.

A few tips to help you achieve the mindset set of a victor (rather than that of a victim) are:
Surround yourself with positive people. One of the largest influences on human beings is the people with whom you spend your time. Find a group of winners; people who celebrate success and will help you to achieve the life you desire.

Read powerful books. There is an abundance of great wisdom to be shared in so many wonderful books. A few of my favorites are from authors like Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, Lou Holtz, and John Wooden.

Get your head out of the news. What good is this really doing you? Any worthwhile news will make its way to you. Don’t sit in front of the TV letting bad news pour over you. Move beyond all that. It’s not worth wasting your time or emotions.

Start each day with a positive quote or mantra. Set your mind in the right direction from the start. Write inspirational quotes or scripture on a 3X5 card and carry it with you, so when things get negative, turn to your card and read it, believe it and soak it into your thoughts.

I’ve been mocked for my beliefs and I’ve been told that I just live in this positive little bubble. I guess this may be true, but I love my bubble and honestly, there is nothing wrong with living in a bubble as long as it’s the right bubble. Unfortunately the world can be down right nasty. This is exactly the reason why we all need a place, a bubble or a belief larger than this world to lean on and turn to. I add onto my shelter everyday in multiple positive ways. I’m building a place of love, abundance, joy and happiness, which can’t be measured by a bank account, a car or a job. Let go of your pride, ego, fear and anger. They will do you no good. Start taking big breaths of fresh air and think like John Wooden who said, “Things turn out best for people who make the best of the way things turn out.”
