Blog a book

Repurposing your blog posts into a book may likely be one of the easiest ways to write a book. Start by outlining the chapters of your book. From there, split each chapter up into subchapters. This allows you to write a little bit with each post while staying the course with the end result – a book.

Not only will you stay the course with writing your book, you can also build a strong readership primed for buying your book once it’s published.

Raise awareness

Is there a cause you believe in? Why not blog about it? Because our blogs are our personal platform, we can write about anything we want. Frustrated with the way a political campaign is going? Blog about it. Angered by animal abuse and lack of responsibility by some pet owners? Blog about it. Want to raise money to build water supplies in third world countries? Blog about it.

Information product development

As with writing a book, blogging is a great platform to test the waters with new product releases. Information products can be delivered as text, audio or video. You can blog about the general theme of your soon-to-be-released products to build interest and desire for the product.

You can also use your blog to pre-sell a product. What could be better than getting paid ahead of time to develop a product?

Build a following

Blogging is one of the best ways to build a following. Again, you must be consistent in order to realize the greatest result. You can drive traffic from your blog to a social media group.

I recently began growing a private group on Facebook where I invite people via a Kindle book and my blog to join. I simply make mention of the group, include the link and people who are interested ask to be invited.

Almost daily I have requests from people asking to join. The best part of using this strategy is people want to be a part of my community. It is a private group and they have to ask to be included.

Promote an event

Blogging about an event is one of the best ways to increase awareness and interest. When I host events, I always make sure to blog about them. With my recent Think Tank held in Vancouver, Washington, I blogged about topics specific to what I would be covering in the mastermind.

With the success of the last Think Tank, I have every reason to believe my next one will be equally successful… if I include blogging about it in the marketing mix.

A great example of a whole community of people blogging about an event is with BlogPaws.

BlogPaws is an annual event that caters to animal bloggers. The strong leadership of BlogPaws keeps the momentum going to not only have people blog about the event, but also register for the event.

As the largest animal blogger conference in the world, there is a lot of effort put into this annual event.

As one of the speakers at BlogPaws, it behooves me to blog about the event. With dozens of speakers, hundreds of animal loving participants, and industry specific sponsors, with everyone putting effort into blogging about the event, it takes on a life of its own.

Getting the most out of your efforts

In order to fully optimize your efforts, it’s essential to be consistent. Blogging once or twice a month will not get you anywhere near the traction as once or twice a week. To get the greatest results, daily blogging is optimal.

Sure, daily may seem overwhelming, but your results are directly proportionate to the frequency (and quality) you put into blogging.

Additionally, blogging is a great way to position your expertise, increase visibility and test the temperature of the market on topics you may be writing about, developing information products and promoting events.

As with anything, blogging on a consistent basis takes commitment. A great way to stay the course is to put accountability measures in place. Whether it be making a commitment to a coach, a group of mastermind buddies, or like I did recently, making a public commitment. The more vocal you are about what you plan to do, the better.

Staying the course

Again, one of the best ways to get the most out of your blogging efforts is with consistent effort. Make a commitment over the next 30 days to blog a minimum number of days. Recently, I challenged myself to blog Monday through Friday for at least one month. Although it is taking effort, it’s also giving me the opportunity to serve my community with timely information.

Grilled Burgers With Homemade Barbecue Sauce and Bacon

Summer time is grilling time. We like to grill food for family picnics and holidays. While it’s easy to toss some burgers on the grill, you may want to make the burgers special. This homemade barbecue sauce transforms plain burgers into gourmet burgers.

For some people a burger is a burger. Not me. I like burgers with a twist–crumbled Roquefort cheese, or French fried onions, or grated ginger and scallions, or sliced mushrooms cooked in butter. Family members are coming to visit in a couple of days. Although I thought about grilling steak, I nixed this idea when I saw the steak prices. So it was back to burgers. How could I make them special?

I remembered a barbecue sauce recipe I’ve made hundreds of times. The original recipe was for pork and I wondered how it would taste on beef. Then I wondered how the beef and sauce would taste with bacon. I tested the combination and it’s a winner.

This recipe calls for 85 percent lean ground beef. If you use 90 percent lean, add a beaten egg to the meat to prevent the patties from falling apart on the grill. Ninety-tree percent lean burgers will probably fall apart because there is little fat to hold them together.

To save prep time, make the barbecue sauce and cook the bacon ahead of time. If the sauce has been refrigerated, take it out of the fridge and warm it. Same thing with the bacon. Before you start light the charcoal, clean the grill with a brush and spray with cooking spray. The coals should be hot and glowing.

For food safety, check the temperature of the burgers with an instant read thermometer. The internal temperature should be 160 degrees. Remember that the patties will continue to cook for a minute or so after you take them off the grill.

INGREDIENTS

1 1/3 pounds 85% lean ground beef

1 teaspoon salt

8 pieces of bacon, cooked crisp and drained on paper towels

1/2 cup dark molasses (or light)

1/2 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon dehydrated chopped onions

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1 cup orange juice

1 tablespoon vinegar

1 tablespoon canola oil

1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard

1/2 teaspoon seasoned pepper

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

METHOD

1. Add 1 teaspoon salt to ground beef and form into four patties.

2. Cover patties with plastic wrap and refrigerate.

3. Combining remaining ingredients in a small saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil.

4. Lower heat and simmer sauce for 20 minutes.

5. Set burgers on grill. Cook until one side starts to brown and grill marks appear. Resist the urge to press burgers with a spatula because this will dry them out.

6. Flip burgers and cook the other side.

7. Remove from grill and set on plate. Brush burgers with barbecue sauce.

8. Transfer burgers to buns (I use wheat buns) and top each one with two slices of bacon. Pass extra barbecue sauce if desired. Serve with a vegetable casserole and your favorite salad. Happy grilling! http://www.harriethodgson.com

Come spring, and you will see a cherry blossom plant in its full splendor. The blossoms can be white or light pink and grow all over the tree. A cherry blossom tree in full bloom adds beauty to any landscape. Generally, people love to grow a weeping cherry blossom tree in their garden as their shape can be maintained easily with regular pruning. These trees grow to a maximum height of around forty feet, but normally it has been seen that most weeping cherry blossom trees do not grow this tall. Also, they spread to just around fifteen to twenty-five feet and do not take up too much room in a garden.

Here are some tips on how to prune a weeping cherry blossom tree:

Before beginning the pruning process, it is important to determine the kind of tree it is. A weeping cherry blossom tree can be a grafted one or a natural one. If the tree is a grafted one, you will be able to see the graft knot on the trunk of the tree. This knot will be present under the crown, or around one foot under the crown of the tree. The pruning will be slightly different for grafted and natural trees.

Pruning should be done in early part of spring or late fall. Do not prune the tree when it is full of blossoms or leaves.

Start from the lower branches. Trim branches that are touching the ground. After trimming the branches should be 6 inches or more from the ground. Then shift to the other branches. Remove branches that appear dead or diseased. If there are branches crossing one another or rubbing against one another, remove the weaker branch. This is commonly seen in grafted weeping cherry blossom trees. If the tree is a grafted one, then remove branches that are growing vertically. Such branches will continue to grow in this manner and lessen the aesthetic appeal of the tree. In natural weeping cherry blossom trees, vertical branches are not a problem as the branches tend to arch naturally towards the ground giving the appearance as the tree is weeping.

In case of a grafted tree, check the center of the foliage. You will find branches are twisted or growing in different directions. These branches should be trimmed to train them to arch towards the ground.

Once you have finished, observe the shape of the tree. If the tree does not have a weeping shape, then trim some more branches at the crown. Ensure that the tree has a uniform shape.
