The Gift Giver

The truck and trailer were both loaded to the brim. The man stared in amazement at the many things he no longer had any use for. His family was grown, he was on his own; he had decided to redecorate and begin anew. Opting not to sell the items, he drove to the thrift store down the street. The workers were ecstatic at the quality of the things he brought in. They happily unloaded it; he declined a receipt and joked with them, telling them he had all these things he couldn’t use; he really only needed a square coffee table to finish his house. The following day he went to check on a job site and helped the homeowner with a load she was taking out. It was a square Tommy Bahama coffee table and a rocker. ‘If you know anyone who needs these things tell them to come by.’ He left with both. The giver had become the receiver!

This happens far more frequently than you might imagine. It is called being in the flow of life, where things that are wanted or needed flow back to us just after we give something to another that they need. It is universal law demonstrating the process of paying it forward. There is a standing joke that as soon as you clean out your closet and give things away someone nearly beats you back home to give you something you can use. Seemingly there is a master sorter directing the goods and services.

The only real rule is to give something without expectation of return to someone who needs it and watch the very things you need return to you; it is the boomerang in the cheerful giver game of life. If you are ever feeling particularly frustrated about something you need and can’t see the way to getting it, find a real need and fill it with a gift. This act opens the door for your good to flow back to you. The things you are looking for will return to you as a gift.

If your money supply is running low and you can’t see the way to pay something, buy a meal for a homeless person or gift something that matters. Do it quick before your own supply is emptied! Alter your course and change your fate by opening the door and stepping into the flow of life. Fill a need and yours will be filled from another source, one you may never see. Soon your cup will be running over!
