Photographing Horses For Equine Art – 3 Useful Tips

Horses make beautiful subjects for photography. So majestic, full of life and free, capturing their very essence on camera can result in a stunning piece of equine art. There are however a lot of challenges for the would-be horse photographer.

Horses move fast. Catching them on camera can be tricky. All too often when your camera is on Auto you end up with an unsatisfying picture; it’s not sharp enough, or the horse has already moved half out of the frame by the time the shutter has clicked.

Here we have three simple tips to help improve your photography skills. They don’t just apply to photographing horses but also to any other animal in motion.

Know your camera settings
Ideally you need a camera with some manual or semi-manual settings that you can use to maximise your chances of catching that perfect shot.

Set your camera to shutter speed priority, TV or A on most cameras.

For horses that are racing or jumping, select a fast shutter speed of at least 1/500s. For horse portraits where the horse is standing it can be slower but no lower than 1/60s.
Check what aperture you are getting to go with that shutter speed.

If there is low light you might need to change the ISO setting to get an aperture that gives you enough depth of field. On most modern cameras an ISO of 1600 still gives you a useable result.

Focus
When a horse is moving fast, perhaps over a jumping course or in the wild, often it’s gone by before you’ve had tome to focus and click. If you’re not using a professional lens, which has a very fast auto-focus capability, you might prefer to switch to manual focus. Then you can pre-focus the lens on a set point, perhaps the jump itself, so that all you have to do is click when the horse is in the right position. A lot of amateurs miss the shot they want because their lens is slow to focus on auto.

Take lots of pictures
We tend to think that professional equine photographers get the great shots just because they’re good – well that’s true, but it is also true that they take a lot of not so good photos too. The secret is that they take lots and lots of photos altogether. The more photos you take the better chance of one of them really being something special. So don’t stop after two or three shots. Keep taking more. Photograph that horse every time it soars over a jump. Take that horse portrait from different angles and just keep on clicking that shutter release.

Pet Grooming Is More Than a Minor Luxury

Taking your dog or cat for a pet grooming appointment may seem like nothing more than a minor pampering session, but it can be a far more beneficial aspect of pet care. Not only is cat or dog grooming important, it is essential to raising a healthy and loving pet.

Pet Grooming Is More Than a Minor Luxury

With all of the other expenses and crises that crop up through the weeks it is hard to remember seemingly menial or luxury tasks. Pet grooming is one of these tasks that are easy to sweep aside. Far away from being a luxury, pet grooming is an essential aspect to owning a pet, and should not be ignored. Though your dog or cat may seem healthy, a thorough grooming will do wonders for their overall health, standard of living, and disposition.

A pet grooming session is a very intimate experience between the animal and the groomer. The pet is washed, cleaned, and brushed everywhere from their toes to their teeth. The groomer must treat the animal well or else your pet wouldn’t allow them to do it, and this trust allows the groomer to get a look at your pet in a way that you may not usually be able to. Pet groomers are usually trained to spot and identify minor animal health issues, such as a tooth infection or a respiratory problem. Think of giving your dog or cat a pet grooming session as a less invasive, informal check up on some of the pet’s more simple health indicators.

Pet grooming is essential for many animals for functional reasons as well. Sometimes, a dog’s nails can grow too long for them to comfortably run. This can lead to reluctance to exercise, that will lead to more serious health problems in dogs. A dog grooming session with be in order to clip their nails and insure that your dog doesn’t lose the athletic edge. Likewise, a good haircut will do wonders for the comfort of breeds with longer hair during the summer months. Cats also have this problem, as increased hair will lead to a smothered feeling, increased hairballs, and lack of sleep. Cat and dog grooming both usually include a haircut among the standard pampering provided.

Regular pet grooming will improve the overall quality of you and your pet’s life. Studies show that regular grooming will decrease the daily stress of your pet as it ages. Pets that are well groomed are more relaxed to the touch of people and more comfortable with themselves. Because of regular pet grooming, the pet will carry very much the same temperament as it grows older. This decreases the chances of the animal lashing out against people, or forgetting is own personal grooming habits. Studies show that this well being seeps into the owner’s health in that the owners of pets that are regularly groomed tend to have lower blood pressure, and experience fewer minor health problems.

What’s the Difference Between Mud Flaps, Splash Guards, and Mud Guards?

How do you know what to select when replacing your mud flaps? Do you need mud guards or are they known as splash guards. Additionally, what makes a good mud flap?

What’s the Difference Between Mud Flaps, Splash Guards, and Mud Guards?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Frank_Armeni]Frank Armeni

Call them what you may, mud flaps, splash aprons, splash or mud guards. It’s the piece of material that is attached to the wheel well with the sole purpose of defraying and reducing the spray or splash of debris from tyres.

Pickup trucks, utilities and SUVs are instances of what type of automobiles commonly make the upgrade to OEM splash guards. The difference in names for this particular accessory is regional. Most countries refer to them as mud flaps. Splash or Mud Guards are terms utilised in the Midwest of the United States and Splash Aprons aren’t unusual on the east coast of the U.S.

Everyday dealers internationally sell new pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans that are not sensibly equipped with the correct type of splash guard. Driving in rain, snow, mud and even dust without protection may cause damage to your own vehicle or to those driving behind you.

Many of us view mud guards to be superfluous or that they may get in the way while 4×4 driving. Many mass-produced and OEM mud guards are sometimes made from a contoured low quality plastic and unfortunately cover a minimal area of the tire. This type of mud flap is subject to breakage in extraordinary temperatures and does not offer much anti-spray protection.

All-rubber splash guards offer more pliability but have a tendency to sail up defeating the purpose. All metal, generally stainless steel, are prone to bending or being easily dented.

Then why isn’t there a better alternative?

Fortunately there are a number of after market manufacturers of high quality mudflaps. They utilise specially formulated polymers with custom lengths and widths to accommodate most applications including road, rally and recreational off-road. Many of the custom-made varieties are temperature tested for extreme conditions as well.

The critical items to consider when making your selection are;

1. What purpose will they be used for the majority of their life – road off-road etc…

2. What’s the average temperature as some polymers are prone to cracking and bending in extreme conditions

3. If the custom-made mud flap attach to the existing mud flap as an extension or as a replacement

4. Do they require additional weight so as to avoid excessive lift or ‘sailing’

Before purchasing your guards also consider consulting your dealer if the vehicle is under warranty.

It’s also a good idea to discuss your choice with the retailer or supplier so that your mud flaps prove to be the right choice the first time around.

Choosing clothes for your baby is just one of many, many things you need to consider when preparing for a new baby! Such a time can be overwhelming, particularly for new parents. Whether you plan your baby’s clothes early on or wait until the last moment, there are several things to keep in mind.

First of all, remember that your tiny baby will grow very fast! This means that clothes that fit at one day of age may not fit after one week of age. You will go through clothes faster than you can imagine. For this reason it is ideal to have infant clothing in several different sizes so that you don’t find yourself with nothing to fit your baby. If you have a baby shower, then you will likely receive several different sizes of clothing, which will be a good start. But make sure you have several different outfits in each size for your baby.

Second, you must always put comfort before fashion or looks when it comes to selecting clothes. Natural fibers (such as cotton, or a cotton-blend) free of harsh dyes, uncomfortable stitching or rough patches are ideal for your infant. Babies have extremely sensitive skin and are easily irritated by the wrong clothes. That means that cute, structured little outfit you bought for your baby might be very uncomfortable for him or her to wear. It is best to wait until the child is older before going crazy with the cute outfits. Besides, remember that the baby will outgrow those tiny outfits very quickly!

And on the topic of clothing materials–make sure that the baby’s clothes are easy to wash. High-maintenance laundry is the last thing you will need to worry about, and your baby will go through several outfit’s a day–remember, babies are cute but very messy! Clothes that you can simply throw in the washer or dryer without any special care are perfect for busy parents.

Your baby’s clothes should also be protective. Infants get cold very easily, so socks and hats are important, especially if you plan to bring baby outside. Sun hats or bonnets and lightweight, comfortable fabrics that cover baby down to the toes will protect your child from harmful UV rays.

Lastly, you will want to make sure that your baby is accessible! Keep in mind that your baby will need frequent diaper changes, and if it takes a long time to take your child in and out of his or her clothes for each diaper change, then you will soon tire of those clothes.

You can cooperate with others to arrange a ‘decoy’ party or dinner that the birthday girl or boy is expecting to attend.

In terms of what to do over the weekend, you could book accommodation in an area the person has always wanted to visit.
