A Baby Boomer shares her most fond memories of childhood. How growing up takes an entire family to make the best outcome.

Love, Faith and Understanding – A Baby Boomer’s View of Childhood

Do you remember the gentle times of childhood where time had no meaning except that you had to be in the house by the time the streetlights were on?; Where summer meant no shoes, being in the sun all day and family trips to the beach? Do you remember running through the sprinklers with the neighborhood kids and not caring that your hair was a tangled mess?

Or what about the night the Comet flew by and you and your whole family laid on the top of the old Chevy and watched the sky for hours?; Or going to sleep in your PJ’s at the drive-in. These are truly the memories a happy childhood is made from.

This windy, brisk weather brought fond memories today of my Dad, Mom and siblings flying kites in the park, or at the end of our cul-de-sac. Always a diamond shaped kite, and we made the tail really long with old sheets ripped into strips, that Mom kept just for that occasion.

Dad would hold it up and we would run fast with the string holder. Then he would run up and show us how to let out the string, a little at a time, gently so the kite would finally catch the wind and nose its way upwards. Then, oh the joy! to watch its exciting dips and flips in the clouds! It was always sad to see it come down, and crash to the earth; But by then we were on to more kiddie things, like the absolute joy of riding down the big grass hills on a big piece of cardboard. You felt like you were really going fast, until your brother went flying by you. Inevitably, you’d crash at the bottom, and then the big trudge uphill to do it all over again!

But I think swinging on the swing was my most favorite thing. The feeling of weightlessness, of touching the sky with your toes outstretched as you climbed higher and higher into the clouds. The pure joy of being in flight, the wind breezing through your hair and the sun kissing your arms and face.

There are many memories we hold dear of the innocence of childhood. How lucky are we to be the ones who had parents who understood the importance of child-play and family; of learning life’s lessons in a safe environment, with love, faith and understanding.

Meeting New People – Making a Great First Impression

What is it that give people the opportunity to intuitively know about you and pre-decide whether they like you or even if they want to say hello… without knowing you? How do you make a good first impression, and then, how do you make a really good first impression?

Meeting New People – Making a Great First Impression
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Barbara_Pellegrino]Barbara Pellegrino

How do you make a good first impression, and then, how do you make a really good first impression?

Does it start with hello?

Logically you would say yes of course; as Hello, Hi, Hola, Ola, Bon Jour, Buenas Dias and a multitude of other greetings are generally the first sound and words that we express towards one another.

In reality, making a first impression happens long before the first word is uttered.

There has been a long cited study about the effectiveness of communication:

7% Words, 38% Tonality, 55% Body language (below the conscious level of awareness)

If this study is accurate then, there is a whopping 55% – 93% that a someone will “pick up” about you at an intuitive, emotional or energy level, before you even have a chance to speak to them. Remember when you may have smiled at a perfect stranger just because…?

How does body language and your energetic presence and emotional intelligence give people the opportunity to intuitively know about you and pre decide whether they like you or even if they want to say hello… without knowing you?

“The meaning of things lies not in the things themselves but in our attitude towards them.” – Saint-Exupery, The Wisdom of the Sands

In making a good first impression, it is amazing and astonishing how much we can perceive about each other by our physical presentation, our posture, the way we dress and the expression we have on our faces. You may say “I just had this feeling…”

How can you tell if someone has had a bad day? What are the tell tale signs?
Shoulders slumped, head hanging low, a sad or angry look on their faces. There are people who, when they enter a room, it seems as if they bring in a “black cloud” of gloom. They may seem preoccupied, not paying attention, or busy on a call or just “lost in their own thoughts.”

Whereas someone who is happy, charismatic or enthusiastic gives off very different signs and you will get a very different first impression. What are the signs of this type of person?

Welcoming, happy, engaging and present in the moment?

A bounce in their step, bright smile, even if they are on the phone they are pleasant towards others with out talking directly to them. Do you know someone who has the ability to cheer up a whole room when they enter… just by the energy that emanates from them a type of radiance or maybe a fresh or healthy glow.

What first impression do you wish project to impact your family, friends, customers and team members every time you enter the room and before you say hello?

What type of energy, enthusiasm and emotional intelligence are you looking for in the relationships and team you build around you?

You may have heard this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson – “Who you are speaks so loudly, I cannot hear what you are saying.”

You may have read that when emotions are high, then intellect is low and the inverse is true, when the intelligence IQ is high the emotional intelligence EQ, is low.

How do you achieve a happy balance of intellectual and emotional intelligence so that you can be passionate, brilliant, quick witted, charismatic and create a really great first impression. What skills give you the ability to be enthusiastic, coherent, responsive and not reactive?

So that you always create a great first impression ad you are engaging and charismatic even before you say hello!

To become aware, alert and mindful of the impressions and effects people make upon each other it is helpful to understand the various levels of energy and emotional intelligence and how it impacts your world.

Three Secrets That Made Me Instantly Successful With Writing Articles With the New Google Update
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Shauna_Mizeo]Shauna Mizeo

These three secrets that I’m going to reveal in article marketing could make you thousands of dollars and set you up for a lifetime of success with an online business. These secrets are, build a relationship, sell smart, and position yourself as an expert.

Build the Relationship

The whole key in being successful online is developing a relationship with your specific reader. If you can do this, you will not have to worry about finding loads upon loads of traffic to your website. When you develop a relationship with your reader more than likely they’re going to buy from you over and over again multiple products that you promote.

Think of it this way, when you go shopping do you buy from someone that you trust, or someone that you just met? More than likely you buy from someone that you trust. This is the same philosophy that works well in Internet marketing.

Sell Smart

Instead of trying to ram down multiple different products down your prospective throat pick and choose on what you’re going to sell to them. It’s not all about selling, selling, and selling. It’s about picking your battles and promoting the best product and solution to your prospective reader. Because let’s face it, it takes a lot to get a subscriber on your list nowadays and for them to buy.

Treat them with respect and given the value and information that they desire first. Then, you can promote your products and services to them after they have built trust with you.

Position Yourself As An Expert

By having yourself positioned as an expert in your niche will allow you to sell more easily to your perspective subscribers. When you’re an expert in a specific niche no longer do you have to worry about using the latest psychological tactics in getting your prospective readers to open up their e-mails, or subscribe to your lists.

These individuals realize that you’re an expert and are going to be wanting to hear what you have to say as you’re not trying to sell them instantly a product or service. This is what’s going to make you extremely successful online developing your subscriber base.

So if you’re not an industry expert you’re going to need to do some more research and find out more information than what your competitors are offering. This way, you can present more information to your subscriber base and portray yourself as the go to guy or girl in your niche.

New York City bike riding is experiencing a real renaissance. There are now more bike paths, venues for biking, bikers’ resources and programs aimed to make cycling easier, cheaper and more fun.

If you want to give New York bike riding a shot, the NYC Department of Transportation can provide you a NYC cycling map and other useful information.

The Best NYC Bike Riding Spots

New York City’s “greenways” are paths or trails connecting parks and neighborhoods. They are designed for biking, walking, and skating. Greenways are the safest routes for New York City cyclists because they are especially marked for bike use. They also afford you a much better scenic view that makes for a unique New York City bike riding experience.

The New York City Mountain Bike Association has information on some other popular New York riding spots: Highbridge Park’s free ride trail, ideal for expert cyclists; Cunningham Park’s wide trails, recommended for beginners; Wolfe’s Pond Park’s ponds and woods for those who enjoy biking in a pleasing natural atmosphere.

New York City Bike Riding Events

The Second Annual Tour de Queens which is held every 12th of July begins in Flushing Meadows Park and runs for 24 miles. It is open to all cyclists regardless of age or skill. Joining the tour is a good way to get acquainted with Queens and the borough’s unique culture.

There’s also the Annual Tour de Brooklyn which is held every 7th of June. It runs about 23 miles, beginning and ending in Coney Island, with a stop in Prospect Park. This tour includes a ride through Flatlands, Bensonhurst, and other Brooklyn neighborhoods off the typical tourist map. You’ll also get to see the famed Green-wood Cemetery, final resting place of such notables as artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and actress Lola Montez.

Governor’s Island, a small piece of land located about half a mile away from Manhattan is accessible to the general population in the summer. As part of Free Bike Fridays, you can borrow a free bike there, for an hour on Fridays.

You can also get free bike rentals the whole summer through the Downtown Alliance Bike Around Downtown program. Only 30 bikes are available for use though and only during specially scheduled times. Even though, you may still want to try your luck.

What Grandma Taught Me About Good Content Writing

Einstein famously said that “You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.” Never has this been more true than in content writing.

What Grandma Taught Me About Good Content Writing
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Vince_Ginsburg]Vince Ginsburg

Einstein famously said that “You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.” Never has this been more true than in content writing.

With notable exception, I look at the Web as a gathering of grandmothers. They come to my articles hoping to find something interesting, engaging, and relevant to read.

I can easily give them that. But the question is, will they stay to hear it? If their mind starts to wander half-way through my article, their mouse will soon follow, and then they’ll have left my website entirely.

My articles are an explanation of some point I’m trying to make. I don’t want a “That’s nice, dearie.” I want a “Oh, I get it now.”

Because that latter reaction gets me a customer. The former will only get me a pat on the shoulder.

Human minds work via association. Smells conjure up unbidden memories. Songs remind us of people we’ve lost. Certain tastes remind us of vacations abroad. Taking something complex and then attaching it to something simpler and more familiar is why our brains are so efficient. This is why examples and analogies work so well in instruction, just like how metaphor and simile perform so admirably in poetry (see what I did there?).

Taking the complex and comparing it to the simple isn’t easy. It takes an agile mind, and more importantly an in-depth understanding of the complex subject to see just exactly how to break it down. If you can look at something large and deduce where to best divide it, then you must intimately understand it. And that’s what Einstein meant.

Content writing and copywriting are both meant to convey vital information to the reader. A reader that, with each successive generation, retains less and less of an online attention span. If they aren’t interested in five seconds, they’re gone. You must communicate to them in that five seconds enough information to convince them to stay and read onwards. If they do not understand enough to become convinced, they will leave.

Admittedly that can be done with just a catchy-enough headline. Now they’re reading, but you’re starting to lose them. Any loss of interest can be attributed to lack of understanding.

Loss of interest comes from any one or combination of:

Confusion: The verbiage is too difficult for them to understand. Perhaps too much jargon without explanation? Perhaps written too technically and therefore unappealing to the uninitiated?
Indifference: The subject of your article doesn’t appear to pertain to the interests of the reader, as far as they can tell.
Distraction: The subject matter did not appeal as a priority to the reader, so they let it be pushed aside by other priorities.

So good content writing, like a good explanation, must be clear, relevant, and important.

How would Einstein explain his theory of relativity to his grandmother? She likely doesn’t understand the fine language of physics, doesn’t care how it would affect her day-to-day life, and therefore doesn’t focus as young Albert tries to explain it.

So Albert has to look at his theory and make the following distillations. He must first simplify it to the terms his grandmother would likely connect with. He must look at how relativity works, and then at how his grandmother lives. And then he must explain, in those simple terms, how his theory intersects with her in a meaningful way.

Writing is important because it attracts and holds visitors, period. More visitors allows for more gain, whether that gain is measured in hits, purchases, or ad clicks. Understanding the principles of good content writing, such as these, lead to better content writing, and therefore more visitors, therefore more gain.

What are your tips for good content writing, or for better writing in general?
