Looking with the Eyes – Driving With The Mind

It’s time to move off from the side of the road. The learner driver goes through the procedure of a five point plan. She checks the left blind spot, all three driving mirrors and then the right hand blind spot. She takes off the handbrake and then tries to pull out in front of the bus coming down the road. The pupil has been under the impression that carrying out a visual procedure would be enough to keep her safe but clearly it was not. She did not focus her attention towards the danger area and take notice of what was there.

Much is made of eyesight when it comes to driving. Part of the driving test is to read a standard number plate from a prescribed distance and if this cannot be done then the test is cancelled. If glasses are needed then they must be worn at all times when driving and a code on the back of the driving licence shows this for insurance purposes.

Though we may look and receive information from the eyes we actually see with the mind, which constructs the picture and makes sense of it. Much of what the brain tells us is happening is made up from memories which fill in the blanks and speed up the process of using visual information. This can be observed at junctions where a pupil simply has no idea how far away moving objects are or how much time is available before they arrive. By constant practice with some trial and error a pupil builds up memories of previous junctions which enable them to emerge safely as judgement improves.

The sense of side to side motion in the brain is very strong though the sense of away and toward movement is quite weak. Car drivers tend to pull out in front of motorcycles after looking straight at them because there is nothing to tell the brain the motorcycle is moving towards them owing to it’s smaller size in the visual field. The forward motion of a car is easier to detect as it is larger. It has been said by experts that motorcycles should weave in the road slightly near junctions so other motorists detect the movement and refrain from pulling out.

A pupil of mine continually drove too close to parked cars nearly hitting them. Upon observing him I noticed one of his eyes did not move. Upon asking him about this he finally got round to telling me that he did in fact have a glass eye. When this was established a few exercises in passing vehicles and building up positional memory solved the problem and he was able to drive safely from then on.

Differences in light for different times of day have an impact as the eyes take a while to adjust. Extreme differences in light in the same scene such as oncoming headlights can effect sense of position and make objects seem closer than they are. Learner drivers will always attempt to turn away from oncoming headlights until they have enough experience to trust in their own judgement. Drivers should always pay a high level of attention to what they see.

Making Your First Website Work for You

An article to give you some helpful pointers when creating your company’s first website. It should help you make something that will accurately reflect your business and help your online presence.

Making Your First Website Work for You

It’s common knowledge to every business owner that not having a website is a big disadvantage. It’s a great way to attract customers, sell your products and to give out plenty of info. The thing is though, it can be a pretty daunting task if it’s your first one. Here’s a couple of tips to get you started.

First off, if you don’t know how to design a website or use any up-to-date programs for building a website, then you have two choices. Hire someone else to do it or spend some time teaching yourself. You really don’t want to end up with some website that looks like it was pulled directly from the mind of Salvador Dali with warped images, fonts changing in size for no reason and colours that could set off an epileptic fit. There’s plenty of resources online to learn from, but if you haven’t got an artistic flair, it’ll be better in the long run to find someone else who does.

If you haven’t heard of search engine optimization, or SEO, then you need to find out as soon as possible. You can hire people to do this for you, but for a start up site it might not be worth the cash when you can do the basics yourself. There are loads of great guides online to read through to get started, but here’s a couple of tips. Pick about 3-5 keywords related to your business (i.e. if you’re a hardware shop words like ‘hardware’ or ‘DIY’). Have them on every page of your site (twice on the homepage and once on every other) as this will help search engines connect these words to your site. Also, get a blog on there too. You’ll need to have fresh content on your site regularly and a blog is a simple way to get this done.

One thing often overlooked is the chance to sell the story of your business on your site. It is a difficult thing to pull off in-store, but people are increasingly interested in exactly where their products are coming from. Ben and Jerry’s do this to great effect with a whole section of their site called ‘Our Story’. It makes people more comfortable with a company. Ben and Jerry’s is massive, yet knowing their story still gives them a local feel and people are more trusting of this. Do not be afraid to make you and your history the face of your business. Websites are a perfect chance to get people interested in your company on a personal level.

The main point is not to let your website become just another part of your business that has to be done. Try not to see it as a chore and see it as a way for you to represent your business in exactly the way you want. When you get it right, it won’t be long before you’ll see the benefits.

Astrology Forecast for December 2012 – General Tendencies for All Sun Signs
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Janet_Moon]Janet Moon

December will bring a big improvement over November. Those nasty eclipses and Mercury’s retro will be well behind us, and life should bring a return to normalcy. Most of December will have routine ups and downs. There could be an increase in holiday depression around the second half of the month with Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter creating a tight triangle. All will be better than fine by New Year’s Eve. Conflicts should be at a minimum, and creativity will be at a maximum as we usher in 2013.

The weekend of December 1st may not ring so well with three planets, Venus, Mars, and the Sun, sending negative vibes toward Jupiter. Some will go to extremes, and exaggeration and wastefulness are probable. Take it easy with the holiday shopping, and think twice before making any decisions to incur more debt.

The week of December 3rd looks rather uneventful with only lunar aspects occurring. The Moon will be in Leo on Monday and Tuesday, December 3rd and 4th, which could inspire us to have a little fun. Wednesday, Thursday, and early Friday, December 5th through the 7th, will bring a busy Virgo Moon. This would be a great time for holiday decorating and gift making.

The Moon will enter Libra for the weekend of December 7th, bringing out our very best social skills. It will be a great weekend for parties, social events, and a little more decorating. Our moods will become a little more passionate (and sexy) on Sunday, December 9th, the first day of Hanukkah, under the Scorpio Moon.

Mercury will enter happy Sagittarius while squaring off with Neptune as the week of December 10th begins. We may not feel like doing much, and inspiration will be hard to come by for the first couple of days. Our attitudes will lighten and our optimism should increase by Wednesday, December 12th. The New Moon will be in Sagittarius on Thursday, December 13th, with Uranus turning directions. There could be some very unexpected surprises (good and bad) popping up. Also, those with dominate Aquarius in their charts, may find that their efforts are thwarted. Mercury will be at a positive angle to Uranus, so this will help to buffer some of the chaos and may help to bring supportive people to our aid. The Gods have a grand finale planned for us on the same day (actually the evening of December 13th), the Geminid meteor shower. You may get a chance to wish on a falling star.

Venus will be following Mercury into Sagittarius during the weekend of December 14th. She will also be required to pay Neptune’s toll, but Venus has a way of sweetening Neptune no matter how she touches him. With the Moon playing in the unpredictable sandbox of Aquarius, there could be some very pleasant surprises. We may discover just how beautiful we are.

The gossip could be flying by Monday morning, December 17th, with Mercury and Jupiter at odds. There may also be new scandals revealed in the public arena before the day ends. Beauty and pleasure could be a priority by midweek, but there will also be an underlying unease in the air. Emotional conflicts may make decision making difficult. The Pisces Moon on Tuesday and Wednesday could increase our sensitivity, but that subconscious tension will continue through the end of the week.

The Sun will enter Capricorn ushering in the first day of Winter as our weekend begins on Friday, December 21st. That feeling of unease could be very strong by Saturday, December 22nd, but our inner trust will be in recovery. Holiday parties could actually turn out to be quite pleasant, however some may overdo it a bit. By Sunday, December 23rd, we should be ready to slow down and appreciate the glamour and beauty of the holidays.

Our self-discipline will be strong, and our pace will be moderate as the week of December 24th begins on Christmas Eve. Accidents are possible on Christmas Day, Tuesday, December 25th, as our energies get scattered under the Gemini Moon. But, our moral fortitude will be strong, and most holiday travel will go smoothly throughout the week.

The Cancer Full Moon will begin our holiday weekend on Friday, December 28th. Many will find their determination and dedication increasing, and there is also a strong probability of success in anything we attempt throughout the long weekend ahead. People will be cleaver, and our intuitions will be sharp for the New Year’s celebrations, Monday, December 31st. And, we will be ready to get busy with our New Year’s resolutions on New Year’s Day, January 1st.

There are very few negative days coming in January, and there are a lot of days with positive possibilities. Jupiter will be turning direct, and there’s a good chance our luck will be changing. Check back next month to find out more.

How To Manufacture Something

What does it take to get something manufactured? What do you need to do? Check out this article to get a solid understanding.

How To Manufacture Something
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chris_Waldo]Chris Waldo

3D printing has the power to change some lives out there. There are so many applications to this technology, and there will continue to be an expansion of applications. Before we even cover some of the applications of this technology, let’s discuss what 3D printing actually is.

3D printing is a form of manufacturing that combats the traditional styles of manufacturing. This process doesn’t involve machining. This process doesn’t involve a person chiseling away at a block of material. This manufacturing technology doesn’t necessarily have to do with molds. It is different in its own way. Let’s discuss what makes it different.

3D printing involves the layer by layer creation of products, parts, instruments, or whatever you’d like to name the final product. There are several styles of 3D printing, but most of which involve uploading a 3D image and clicking “go” on the machine used to manufacture parts, or the 3D printer. This technology operates using a CAM system, or a computer aided manufacturing system. This means that the computer will end up telling the ink jet, ultraviolet light, lasers, extruder, or whatever: where to go, and how much material to lay down. I’ve mentioned layers multiple times within this article, let me elaborate on those layers.

For a product to come about through 3D printing, it will be manufactured layer by layer. There are several types of 3D printing like I mentioned earlier, but regardless of the method – this technology is a form of additive manufacturing. Additive manufacturing involves laying down layers of material on top of each other to result in a final product. Various methods involve laying down melted material on top of each other. Some methods involve an ultraviolet light curing liquid resins. Some methods involve melting together material with a laser, one layer at a time. There are quite a few options to which this technology should work.

How does it all come together though; how does it work? Let me walk you through the process. For a person to receive a piece made through 3D printing, you need a few things. First off, you will need to design a 3D image. This image will serve as the blueprint for the product that you wish to manufacture. This can be made by you, or you can hire someone else to do it. Secondly, you will either need to purchase a printer, or more likely you will come into contact with a 3D printing facility. This facility will take your models, load them into the printer(s), and will manufacture them for you. So you would end up sending the digital image to the facility, the technicians would load the image into the 3D printer itself, and they would essentially press the “go” button. Some forms of this technology need de-powdering, infiltration, polishing, removal of support materials, or whatever! Some forms of this technology don’t require any after-touches to be done to the final piece. It really depends on the method of 3D printing that you’re interested in. Assuming that there isn’t any after-touching to be done, after the model is manufactured, payment and shipping are the only real issues to deal with! There you have it, that’s how 3D printing works in a nutshell.
