If you’re like most full-time workers, you spend a significant portion of your life at the office. While making your home a welcoming retreat is a worthy goal, it’s also smart to create a more pleasant office environment. Not only can a more attractive work environment make you feel better once you clock in, it can also improve your productivity, project a more professional image, and even improve your health. Use these tips to get inspired and get started.

Re-imagine your workspace – Creating a more pleasant office environment begins long before your first visit to the office furniture store. Look at your workspace with fresh eyes and imagine it completely empty. If you could create the ideal office environment in the space you have, what would it look like? Think about how you work and start sketching your ideas. For example, while your office may currently be stuffed with file cabinets determine whether they’re still necessary. If your office is now largely paperless, you may be able to archive some of your older documents and eliminate some of the file cabinets in your office.

Choose calming colors – The colors you choose could affect your productivity – for better or for worse. According to Pantone, color affects the body and the mind. Red, for example, can lead to riskier behaviors and raise blood pressure while blue has a calming effect. Colors associated with improved productivity include blue, green, and light orange. Gray and drab shades of green can be depressing while extremely vivid colors such as yellow or red can be too stimulating. Consider the context of your work environment as well.

Invest in good lighting – Harsh fluorescent lights may be inexpensive to purchase and operate, but they may not be the best choice for your mood or eyes. The more natural light you can bring into your office, the better.

Choose ergonomic furniture – Not only should your office environment be visually welcoming, it should support your body. Choose ergonomic furniture and accessories to prevent common workplace-associated injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, back and neck pain, and eye strain.

Add plants – Did you know that plants have been shown to reduce stress? A study by researchers at the University of Sydney found significant mood improvements with plants present including less anger, depression, confusion, anxiety, fatigue and stress. In addition to facilitating a calmer work environment, plants are pretty, they produce oxygen, and they encourage you to be more nurturing. After all, they rely on you for their health.

Add a personal touch – Your office should reflect who you are without going overboard. Add photos of your family, stock your office bookshelf with motivational business books, and stock one of your desk drawers with a few favorite snacks from home. This will help bring a “home feeling” while you’re at work.

Invest in pleasurable office supplies – Even your office supplies can make a difference in how enjoyable your workday can be. Invest in good pens, a high quality planner, and other supplies you use on a daily basis.

Important Message If You Want to live Longer

This article was written at the time of Wimbledon, the Test between The British and Irish Lions, and the Tour de France. While these events may have passed and the respective results known, the key message of this article remains, namely the importance of always having something to look forward to.

Important Message If You Want to Live Longer
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dr_Neil_Flanagan]Dr Neil Flanagan

Wow! What a weekend we’re in for. There’s Wimbledon, the decider between the British and Irish Lions and the Wallabies, and the Tour de France gets down to business after sight-seeing around Corsica. Add to this sporting extravaganza your own list of things you’ll be looking forward to, and we’re in for a grand time. It’s not only that Wimbledon is one of the world’s number one tennis tournaments but it’s also the oldest (first held in 1877). The Lion’s-Wallabies Test promises to be sensational, although you never know with ‘the game played in Heaven’. And the Tour will ensure that sleep will be the only thing missing over this weekend of sport.

Too bad if you’re not into sport, or you’re reading this after you know the results of the tennis and the Test. Just make sure that you replace these events with others.

Having something to look forward to is an important part of living a longer, better life. It’s more than 10 years since The Berlin Aging Study, but one of its major findings is just as current, and relevant, as it was back then. The Study identified that one key characteristic of people who lived to be 100 was that they had some reason to get up the next day-and the next-and the next. And that something to look forward to need not be major, life-changing events. So, if tennis, Rugby, or cycling are not your ‘cups of tea’, make sure you choose something else that is. As long as the event has meaning for you (and doesn’t harm anyone else, of course), that’s all that matters. A holiday, a family outing, a night out, gardening, hugging the grandkids, all qualify: what gets the hunger-juices going for one person might mean nothing to another.

Keep in mind that no one can tell you what specifically should appear on your radar screen of big-deal events: what you should be looking forward to. In a world where many are eager to take control of your life (drive your bus, if you like), only you can decide what’s of value to you. History and the media relates some great examples of the importance of having something to look forward to. Researchers are now confirming what Viktor Frankl observed in the Death Camps of World War II: that death rates decreased leading up to a major event (like Christmas) and increased after that event when the hoped-for change did not occur. Having something to look forward to is life-changing.

The challenge for you is not only to ensure you have something to look forward to but to also replace that ‘something’ after the event has passed. For us sports-lovers, after Wimbledon there’ll be the US Open and pretty soon we’ll be back enjoying the Super XV Rugby. And there’ll be other cycling events to follow.

Sam Walton, of Walmart fame, reminded us that it’s not what you drive, but what drives you that counts. Always having something to look forward to helps to provide that drive.

Staying In The Moment – Or Not

Staying In The Moment – Or Not
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Stanley_Clayton]Stanley Clayton

I firmly believe that the present could be controlled, if you could find some way to recognize when it actually happens. How long does it take before the future becomes the past? Traditionally, we like to look at time in terms of years, months, days, minutes, or seconds. Our minds are fine with those relatively large increments of time, because we can locate and latch on to a truly discernible present. The problem arises from if there are increments of time much smaller than a second. With those small increments, how do you know when you are in between the past and future?

The process of catching a football would require you to be in the moment (the present), probably, a million or maybe a billion times. During that moment or moments, you would have to be concerned about the past, present and future numerous times to keep alive the continuity of the catch. The whole arrangement is similar to a dollar sign shape. The S shape would be representative of your path through time. The vertical line going down the middle of the S shape would be the present and or either side of it, transfixed to the left or right, would be the past and the future. If they were towns, you would be coming out of The Past, into The Present (The Moment), and before you knew it you would be in The Future. However, you would be thrust into The Present shortly before being relegated back to The Past. You would go through these towns so quickly that you wouldn’t have time to get to know what the weather is like, what the people are like, or if they have decent schools. You would be in and out and would have no time to look for or buy a house there. How could a person live in either town or be in the moment (the present)?

The present seems to be a lot like the existence of nothing. Once you look for and discover nothing it becomes something before you know it and, therefore, is disqualified from being in the state of nothingness. The present is not impossible to live in; we do it every day. The difficult part is to recognize when it is occurring.

To make things less complicated, I follow the coach’s advice and live in that imagined moment, the so-called present. It can be adjusted to fit whatever circumstance that is needed to be successful. I will continue to label the present as a time period that is manageable. A period that allows the cognitive completion of steps needed to complete the entire process. Logically, I know this not technically correct, but the resulting order in my routine has proven to be beneficial. I can live in the moment as long as I have the ability to define it.

5 Reasons for Getting Started With Internet Marketing

Internet marketing is not for everyone but for many, it is the business of their dreams. You may be missing something by not exploring this work from home business. Here are 5 good reasons to consider it.

5 Reasons For Getting Started With Internet Marketing

Internet marketing is not for everyone but for many, it is the business of their dreams. You may be missing something by not exploring this work from home business. Here are 5 good reasons to consider it.

1. You can set your own hours

As a former public school music teacher, the worst thing for me were the hours. Most musicians are night people and I am no exception. For me, having to be up at 5:30 am Monday through Friday was torture. Now I can work on my business anytime I want and I do! If I want to take time off, I do it and make it up later. This is a lifestyle benefit for most people and it allows them to have the kind of freedom they have always desired.

2. You can work anywhere

As I write this, I am at our home in Florida, sitting by the pool. I can work anywhere that has an internet connection. Jo Barnes, of The Social Networking Academy travels the world with her family and maintains a thriving internet marketing business. Chris and Susan Beesley, of The Six Figure Mentors, divide their time between their home outside of London and a ski chalet in the French Alps. Doesn’t that sound great? And yes, anyone can do this.

3. This business is worldwide

One of the great things about working on the internet is that you can market to people all over the world. You are not restricted to one area or even to one country. There are literally millions of people who want and need what you have to offer. If you need to talk with someone across the pond, you can have a video Skype session which is free if you both have Skype.

4. It costs practically nothing to start and to run an online business

The cost to run most businesses are daunting. Start ups need to find a location, furnish it, pay a rental deposit, invest in office equipment and supplies, find staff. Then there are salaries, advertising expenses, monthly rent once the business is up and running. With our business, all is takes is a laptop and a few dollars to set up your business and you are off and running. When you start making money, you simply re-invest a portion of your profits back into your business for increasing traffic to your site.

5. It’s just plain fun!

I have had the pleasure of “meeting” interesting people all over the world on the internet. I find that my fellow marketers are interesting and creative and I love to engage with them. Doing this business is interesting and allows for as much creativity as you like. As a former teacher, I love helping my clients to get started in their businesses. It’s so much fun that I like to spread the word!

If you have ever thought about starting an internet marketing business, perhaps this will help. It is not easy, but having the freedom to create your own ideal lifestyle is truly worth it.
