Goal Setting This Year? Do This Instead

For most of us the path is by setting a goal, some of us even go further and write them down! If you go even further then you might look at them daily and even repeat mantras about how this is YOUR year! And then 6 months passes and the goals are staring you in the face… still on paper or attempted and abandoned. I used to be the same, but I have found a better way and it took the Tax man to teach me the lesson!!

Goal Setting This Year? Do This Instead

OK so admit it, how many times have you decided this is the year that you… lose weight, take up running, and write your bucket list… Commit to your singing dreams (you know that little voice on the inside of you that keeps tapping away even though you keep shelving it with another excuse?) Well actually I’m going to take the guilt trip away from you!! I’m going to show you exactly why those dreams have stayed just that.

You see, one time I was faced with a large tax bill to pay and only 6 months to pay it. The number at first didn’t look impossible but then again I couldn’t’ see HOW I was going to do it, and in that TIME FRAME either.

So I went home and worked backwards from the time it had to be in. I worked out how many weeks and how much had to be saved. It was amazing that once I had taken the big end goal away, what I needed to do WEEKLY was actually very easy. I created a SYSTEM to do that and checked regularly to see if I was ON TRACK. I made ADJUSTMENTS along the way and before I knew it I had the money.

And guess what it was GUILT AND STRESS FREE.

So what would happen if you committed to an easy workable system? Once that fits in with you?

You could use it for learning several songs ready for a concert or a gig.

You could do it for learning a part in a musical or opera.

You could plan your lessons for the year and even increase them by looking at how much per week you stash away to pay for them.

You could use the same approach to get your website up and running, write songs or record an EP.

So here’s what to do now:

1. Release the need to for immediate results:

Rome wasn’t built in a day and nor are your aspirations.

2. Commit to a process NOT a goal

When you just have a goal with no specific plan you spend your time feeling “not good enough, or only successful when you get the goal”. We put lots of stress on ourselves and then when we cave in carry on with the story of “Why we can’t”.

3. Fall in love with S.Y.S.T.E.M.S.

(So You Stay Truly Experiencing Massive Success) –

Create and reverse engineer your goals, creating a SYSTEM to achieve them.

Goals provide the framework and the aspiration, but to get that out of the heart and into your life with require more than wishful thinking. Giving up doesn’t tell you that it couldn’t be done, just that you didn’t have any clear idea to work into your life as to how to see it unfold.

Do You Have Social Media Etiquette?

Do you use the same manners and etiquette online as you do in person? Do you feel you have more freedom to do or say what you want online? Do you ask permission of others before you post or share something online? This articles describes various situations that involve social media etiquette and suggests what is appropriate.

Do You Have Social Media Etiquette?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Nancy_ONeill]Nancy ONeill

When you post a photo online or tag a person in a picture, do you ask permission from them first? What about sharing private information about your family or friends? Or what about posting videos or photos of strangers on your social media sites?

With the ease of capturing people in public without their knowledge, it’s impossible for someone to retain privacy unless they never leave their house. Let’s say you’re at a restaurant with your family enjoying dinner. Or you’re at school or work going through your daily routine. Or maybe it’s the weekend and you’re shopping at the mall. Anyone with a cell phone could be taking your picture or shooting a video of you without you ever knowing it. Within a matter of minutes, they’ve posted it on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube. Your name probably isn’t mentioned unless they know you and maybe you won’t ever see the post but your personal life is now public without your permission.

What if you’re with some of your friends just goofing around? Someone pulls out a camera or their phone and starts clicking. Everyone is having fun but maybe not all of the people involved actually want these photos plastered all over Internet. Just because you can take photos effortlessly these days and post them online doesn’t mean you should.

Let’s look at another situation. You attend a conference. You meet lots of people, make great contacts and instant friends, and exchange all your social media information. It’s common for people to be taking pictures of everything and anything all day long at an event. Before your head hits the pillow, there’s a good chance that someone took your picture during the day and that you will be tagged in a photo posted online somewhere. In this situation, it’s probably harmless and most people won’t care if you shared their photo. However, it wouldn’t hurt to exercise common courtesy and get their permission or at least mention that you might share it with several thousand of your closest friends on Twitter or Facebook.

Ask yourself this question. “Would I take a photo of someone and post it on a freeway billboard or send it to a newspaper editor or use it in a book I was writing, all without ever asking the person’s permission first?”

Sharing information, videos, and photos online shouldn’t be any different from what you would respectfully do in person. People are entitled to their privacy. The next time you take a photo or video of someone and are ready to post it online, think about asking their permission first.

When kids are involved, extra consideration should be taken. Everyone, including parents, should think long and hard before posting anything online about their own kids or other kids without permission.

What you share online now will have an effect on your life and the lives of others for many years to come.

Five Strategies for Getting a Relaxing and Restful Sleep

Five Strategies for Getting a Relaxing and Restful Sleep
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Margrett_F_White]Margrett F White

The consequences of sleep loss include not only higher stress and reduced performance at work, but even an increased chance of stroke risk and other deadly ailments. By focusing on ways to ensure a good night’s sleep, you can make your life longer and happier. Here are five tips for how to sleep better.

1. Bedtime rituals

By following a routine every night, you can associate sleep with certain activities. This can help prompt your brain to prepare for its nightly slumber. The sacred objects in this ritual include your bed, which should be reserved exclusively for sleep and love-making. This way, getting into bed will signal to your psyche that it’s time for rest (or romance). Other ideas for bedtime customs include:

Yoga stretches

Reading a book or listening to an audio book (not reading a backlit tablet, as explained below)

A hot bath

2. Upgrade your bedroom

Without a good quality bed, you may find yourself waking up with backpain. You can forestall sleep-destroying aches and pains by investing in a firm mattress and the right kind of pillow.

Many people find comfort by using a memory-foam pillow, like the enVy anti-aging and wellness pillow. This is designed to maintain proper alignment in your spine by tilting the head gently upwards with its signature V-shaped design.

3. Melatonin regulation

Melatonin is the chemical your brain uses to regulate its sleep cycle, or circadian rhythm. Exposure to light is the natural trigger for this hormone, but your habits may disrupt its cycle. Here are some of the ways to keep your melatonin regular:

Make sure your room is completely dark. This means drawing heavy curtains against street lamps or perhaps shading your eyes with a sleep mask.

Avoid television, computers, or other devices with backlit screens. This includes smart phones and iPads or other backlit tablets.

Use soft lights

4. Consistent hours

A regular bedtime is not just for kids. The more regularly your pattern of sleeping and rising, the more refreshing your hours of rest will feel. If you missed out on some sleep the previous night, compensate by napping sometime during the day, instead of throwing off your schedule by sleeping in.

Most adults need an average of eight hours of sleep nightly, but considerable variation exists. You may need an hour more downtime than average. Pay close attention to how sleepy you feel after a longer or shorter sleep.

5. Anxiety reduction

One of the biggest sources of sleep loss for adults is worry. And then end of a busy day, many people find themselves making a mental inventory of their anxieties – bills to pay, relationship problems, and responsibilities at work all clambour for the attention of the mind.

It’s essential to manage your stress. One of the most important keys to a good sleep and happy life is learning to recognize what you can and cannot control. Other ways to reduce stress include exercising and eating well, especially by limiting your caffeine intake. This stimulant may continue to affect your brain more than ten hours after consumption.
