Let’s Just Dream For a Moment

Picture this if you will…

You’re in your car listening to your favorite CD. Just the two of you. Idling along. Not far to go now. Cruising at a nice gentle speed. You press a remote key. You’re almost there. You slow down, change down through the gears and make the right hand turn towards the sturdy wrought-iron gates. They’re still swinging slowly apart as you crawl towards them. You pass through, down the long cream brick driveway bordered by tall trees on either side.

The dappled sunlight plays images across the bonnet. You make one final sweeping turn left as you gradually come to a halt. Switch off the ignition. All is quiet. You stretch briefly, take a deep breath, open the door and step out.

The scent of magnolia is in the air. A familiar aroma. Again you breathe deeply to take in its haunting perfume. You can almost taste it.

It’s a lovely day, hardly a cloud in the azure blue overhead. The tinkling sound of gently cascading water in the fountain, the centre-piece of the circular driveway, adds to the serenity. All around the fountain the pavement is moistened as fine droplets bounce down, creating a fine spray. The sun causes a miniature rainbow in its mist.

You close the door of the bright red sports car. It hardly makes a sound. Just a gentle click. Porsche Boxsters are renowned for that. Your partner does the same. Your eyes meet. A knowing smile is shared. You’re both lightly tanned, completely relaxed.

It’s been a long flight from the Bahamas. You glance briefly around the gardens. Bright flowers add to the beauty of the perfectly manicured lawns, themselves a luxurious deep green.

Your partner gives you another loving smile and, hand in hand, you walk towards the large house. Its stately stonework gives the high facade a majestic appearance. The right hand door slowly opens as you mount the steps.

It’s been a wonderful two-week break. But you’re both glad to be back. You’re home!

Did that sound good? Dreamy even? You bet. Why not turn something like this into reality. Other people have. Why not you? There are many people who live just like that.

We hear so much about mind set; about getting it and keeping it. But to avoid the pitfalls, do we know what kind of set we are?

The different kinds of set: Which kind of set are you?

My mind was set and I changed it: Un-set

I’ve done this before and decided to go for it again: Re-set

I’ve got to do all this training done so I really know what I’m doing: Get-set

I’ve bought every tool in the place. I can totally automate everything, and I don’t even have to know how to use it: Tool-set

I’m just running, racing, flying to the finish line: Jet-set

I’ve determined my goal and will accomplish it. I will use all of my zeal and passion: Mind-set

So in these different kinds of sets, which kind of set are you?

The Un-setter: “My mind was set and I changed it.”

The Un-setter is someone who has determined to accomplish a goal or task, and then changes his mind about it. It could be that his passion was not strong enough to meet that goal, or the expectations of the outcome were lowered. It could also be that the excitement of the goal carried him so far, and when he seen how much time, money, and work it was going to take his enthusiasm fizzled.

The Re-setter: “I’ve done this before and decided to go for it again.”

The Re-setter is one step farther than the un-setter. He was the un-setter and now has decided to go for it again.

The Get-setter: “I’ve got all this training to do, so that I know what I’m really doing.”

The Get-setter is the one who trains, studies, and educates himself to the point of learning it all, but never putting it into action.

The Tool-setter: “I’ve bought every tool in the place. I can totally automate everything, and I don’t even have to know how to use it.”

The Tool-setter is the person who buys all the tools to make sure that he’s ready for everything. This person buys because he doesn’t have an understanding of what specific tools are needed for the goal or task he is trying to accomplish. So he overbuys. I have to say that I’ve done a bit of this myself, as many of us do when we are learning.

The Jet-setter: “I’m just running, racing, flying to the finish line.”

The Jet-setter is the person who has the will to go get it done, but wants to race through everything without totally understanding the concepts of the goal or task. They are determined to finish the race, one way or the other.

The Mind-setter: “I’ve determined my goal and will accomplish it. I will use all of my zeal and passion to bring it about.”

The Mind-setter is the person who has made his plans and is determined to work hard with all of the passion and zeal within him. He will re-adjust as needed, and will take advice from those who know how to do it better. He will brain-storm or master-mind with others and will constantly try to foresee any obstacles that may arise. There is only one way to go with him and that’s to the top. He will not stop until he gets there.

He will survive! (A little Gloria Gaynor here now. Can you hear the music?)”

So, again, out of the different kinds of set, which kind of set are you?
