My Dog And its Play Time

Young dogs have a reputation for playfulness, and they continue playing well into old age, although not as energetically. This activity helps to maintain their mental and physical health and improves their muscles tone and agility. The different ways in which dogs play is shaped early in life.

Playing Styles

A dog’s experiences establish the trends that continue throughout its life. This especially applies to the way it play and interacts with its owner. Young puppies will instinctively chase a toy, and it is generally easy to persuade a puppy to bring the toy back as it soon realizes that you will throw it again, allowing the game to continue. Your pet’s ancestry is also significant to some extent. Retrievers, for example, almost instinctively bring back toys that are thrown for them. A dog’s superior sense of smell also means that it can locate toys that have fallen out of sight, for example, in a ditch or under a hedge.

Skilled soccer players?!?!

On hard surfaces, some dogs learn to use their front paws as legs, to control the movement of the ball, like a soccer player uses his or her feet when dribbling a ball.

Toys for different breeds

Mastiff-type dogs, which tends to not be as athletic as many other breeds, are also less enthusiastic about chasing after a ball. Instead, they prefer toys that they can chew with their powerful jaws, or ones that can be used safely in a tug-of-war. As described above, you will need to train your pet to release the toy when instructed, as required.

Learning to drop objects

Early play with your pet provides the opportunity to teach it not just to drop its toy when instructed, but also to open its mouth. This allows you to take away objects such as shoes that you do not want chewed and will also simplify the task of giving tablets when they are needed in the future. A dog that is used to having its mouth opened from puppyhood will never resent this procedure later in life. However, an adult dog confronted by having its jaws unexpectedly pried apart is likely to act aggressively, out of fear. With your hands so close to its jaws, you can easily be bitten. It is not a difficult lesson to teach, and your dog will soon come to realize that dropping its toy will allow you both to continue the game. Place your left hand over the top of the dog’s muzzle and use your other hand to pry the lower jaw down gently. Use the command “drop” as you do so.

No Teasing Your Dog?!?!

Dogs can wait for their chew toy intently, sitting and waiting for it to be given to him. Avoid inadvertently teasing your pet in any way with a toy – which you can do by keeping it just out of reach – because you could cause it to become so frustrated that it tried to grab the toy aggressively.

Have you ever had a recurring dream that made no sense….and yet you continued to have it, month after month or even year after year? What does it mean? Is your subconscious desperately trying to tell you something? And if dreams have no real meaning….but are only random firings of neurons in our brains that have no underlying significance, WHY do so many of us have so many of the same dreams, over and over? Even more perplexing? Why do MILLIONS of ordinary people have extraordinary experiences with precognitive dreaming….where things we see in our slumbering minds, come TRUE hours or days or even years later?

Some people believe that everyone has precognitive dreams and that most of us simply don’t remember them. As a matter of fact, the psychic dream “counselor” that I use believes that many of us actually have a series of incredible experiences while we sleep that we don’t remember when we awake, and that those experiences are truly the gateway into a wonderful world of spiritual truths and exciting inspirations that only a fraction of us will ever know.

Here are a few examples:

1 – Out of body and astral projection experiences. Many psychic practitioners believe that when we sleep, our “true selves” or conciseness is freed from the confines of our physical bodies, and is able to travel freely in unseen spiritual worlds, collecting information, having experiences and actually encountering other people, places and things that become embedded deep in our subconscious.

Believe it or not, as hokey as this may sound to YOU, much of the worlds population believes this as well, as astral projection and the “bardo realms” is a well accepted truth in most Eastern religions, including Buddhism, Hinduism and other spiritual traditions that believe in the attainment of “siddhi’s” or psychic and supernatural powers.

2 – Spiritual Visitation Experiences

These happen most frequently to people who have lost a loved one, and are visited by that loved one in spiritual form….often either in deep sleep, or in the weird in between state that happens between light sleep and being fully awake. (often called a hypnogogic state) More than 75% of parents who lose a child at a young age will have this experience. About 50% of men or women who lose a spouse will have this experience as well.

There is also a well known phenomena called “crisis apparitions” or “after death communications” which also takes place in the dream state……and is where someone who has JUST passed away, or only recently crossed over (often with the person dreaming NOT knowing about it yet) will appear in a dreamlike vision to tell you not to worry, that they are “okay” and often to say goodbye.

This happened to ME many years ago, and was the key experience that changed me from a complete skeptic, to a true blue believer, almost overnight. (no pun intended!)

I was visited by a co-worker who lived on the other side of the country, while sleeping… and he told me not to worry, that all was okay, but he came to say goodbye “for now”. I learned the next morning he had died suddenly the night before, at roughly the same time. Several weeks later, still not convinced it wasn’t a huge coincidence, I spoke to a psychic medium by phone who told me exactly what had happened in the dream, how he had appeared, what he said…and why…..and from that point forward, my life and what I believe has never been the same!

(and now i look forward to my psychic dreams….so I can find out what they REALLY mean later!)

Before heading out for a weekend of camping, get a few handbooks on local birds and other animals. Birding is again becoming a very popular past time and an event that everyone can enjoy from childhood through their entire life. Even going to a city park is more fun with a bird handbook. Make a game of identifying as many birds as possible as a family. Next trip, try to get a higher score. The whole family will quickly learn which birds live in your area and how to identify them by their calls. Expand searches to plants as well. An extra benefit is that it’s always good to know what poison oak and poison ivy look like so everyone can stay away from it.

Almost every state and national park have guided tours conducted by park rangers or volunteers. Contact your local offices for dates and times. Many large city parks such as Balboa Park in San Diego, California, have guided hikes like the Botanical Walk through Florida Canyon. It’s not only educational, but good exercise as well. And kids just eat this stuff up.

The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other national parks frequently offer week-long camping tours such as the river rafting down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. This type of vacation is a once-in-a-lifetime experiences for everyone involved. These guided experiences are some of the best eco-tours available in the United States. But it’s not necessary to go to these extremes to have a rich camping experience.A good resource for finding local tours is museums in the area you will be visiting. You local newspaper has a section for upcoming events which will give you great ideas as well.

Our large and beautiful country offers virtually every type of environment available in the world. Denali National Park in Alaska offers alpine hiking on Mt. McKinley, the highest peak in the United States. However, if you only want to travel as far as California, Mr. Whitney has white-out conditions even in the summer because it is the highest peak in the lower 48 states. If you prefer to visit the tropics, Jean Lafitte National Park in Louisiana offers guided swamp tours. Maybe the rain forest calls you. If so, visit the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park in Oregon. When you return to work after your vacation, when your co-workers ask how you spent your vacation, you can tell them that you spent three days hiking through a rain forest. How cool is that?

With just a little research, you will find that family camping in the United States provides an unparalleled camping experience. What are you waiting for? Go camping!!

Family camping is inexpensive and rewarding travel for the whole family. Enrich your [http://www.smartfamilycamping.com]family camping experience today.

5 Ideas For Messages To Write In A Sympathy Card

You can usually find a card that expresses your sympathy in a meaningful way, but it means so much more if you take the time to write a personal message. Your message doesn’t have to be perfect. Your loved one will take comfort knowing that you put some thought and care into writing a personalized message.

5 Ideas For Messages To Write In A Sympathy Card
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chelsea_Hanson]Chelsea Hanson

A sympathy card is a great way to reach out to someone in their time of loss. You can usually find a card that does a great job of expressing your sympathy in a powerful and meaningful way. However, it means so much more if you take the time to write a personal message in the card. The only problem is, coming up with the right thing to say can be very challenging. It’s hard to find words to express the magnitude of your sympathy and condolences. Here are some examples of messages to write in your sympathy card when you don’t quite know what to say.

1. You Are in My Prayers
When a person is grieving they can take comfort in the fact that people are praying for them. It makes them realize that they’re not alone. Let the person know that you’re thinking about them and praying for them often.

“My heart goes out to you in your time of loss. Know that I am thinking of you often and I will keep you and your family in my prayers every day.”

2. I’m Sorry for Your Loss
Sometimes the best way to express your sympathy is to let them know that you are sorry. Not that it was your fault that their loved one died, but you’re sorry that it happened, sorry that they are grieving, sorry for the pain.

“I am so sorry for your loss. Your sister was such a wonderful person, she will be greatly missed by so many.”

3. My Favorite Memory of Your Loved One is…
Following the death of a loved one it can be so nice to hear stories about the departed. We can no longer see them or hear their voice, so stories about them help us to continue to feel connected to them and feel their presence. Write down your favorite memory of the departed in a sympathy card to share that special moment with their loved one.

“I will miss your father so much. It seems like just yesterday we were graduating college together. I will never forget the wonderful times we had together.”

4. I am Here for You
Losing a loved one can make us feel alone or abandoned. The overwhelming burden of grief that makes everyday living seem nearly impossible. Let your loved one know that you are here for them in their time of grief and that they can turn to you with whatever they need help with.

“I can’t even imagine what you’re going through right now. Know that if there’s anything you need, whether it’s a babysitter, grocery shopper or just a shoulder to cry on, you can always call on me.”

5. I Love You
Finding the words to say to our closest friends and family members during their time of loss can be the most difficult challenge. It is those people who we are the closest to that really leave us searching for just the right words to say. Why not take this time to let them know how much you love them? Bring comfort to your loved one during their time of pain and suffering by reminding them that they are loved.

“During this time of pain and sorrow, know that I love you and am here to help you through.”

The truth is, your message doesn’t have to be perfect. Your loved one will take comfort knowing that you put some thought and care into writing a personalized message. Think about what you would want someone to say to you during your time of grief and try to put that into words in your sympathy card.

Try These Old Fashion Relish and Salad Recipes To Add Zing To Your Meals

Sometimes I think my best recipes are the old ones I grew up with in the 40s and 50s. If you aren’t used to using old recipes, you will no doubt be surprised at how easy they are. People often think old fashion meals lots of hard work but that isn’t necessarily so. Make this recipes and see for yourself how easy they can be.

THE EARLY WALDORF SALAD
This recipe was created just before the 1900s at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. It is still a popular salad today although the original recipe was a simple combination of apples, celery, and mayonnaise, nuts were later added and now other items are often added as well. I am posting this to show everyone what an original really is.

1 cup diced unpeeled red apples
1 cup sliced celery
1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
1 cup (or to taste) mayonnaise

In a mixing bowl, combine apples, celery and walnuts. Lightly fold in mayonnaise until ingredients are coated. Makes about 4 servings.

FROZEN FRUIT SALAD CUBES
This is an old recipe we started making in the 1950s when we used the old aluminum ice-cube trays that made large cubes. I still have some I can use today. However, it works fine in the plastic ice-cube trays of today although you may have to serve 2 cubes instead of one.

1 1-lb. can fruit cocktail
1 3-oz pkg cream cheese
2 tbsp fruit cocktail syrup
1/3 cup all purpose cream, whipped
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
6 marshmallows, quartered
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Soften cream cheese and drain fruit cocktail. Mix cheese, fruit juice and sugar until smooth. Add marshmallows; fold into fruit cocktail; fold whipped cream into fruit mixture. Pour into ice-cube trays and freeze until firm. (No stirring needed.) Makes 1 quart.

If you prefer round slices, pack into the fruit cocktail can, cover end with foil and put in freezer until firm. To serve, open the other end also and with the lid push contents out to slice.

BANG SWEET PICKLE RELISH
Strange name, yes. But kids love hearing the jars “pop” or “bang” when they seal so we have always called this Bang Relish. Homemade pickles and relishes are oh-so-good!

1 gallon ground-up unpeeled cucumbers
8 onions, ground
1/2 cup pickling salt
4 cups vinegar
1 cup water
5 cup sugar
1/2 tsp tumeric
2 tbsp celery seed
1 tbsp mustard seed
2 red bell peppers, ground
2 green bell peppers, ground

Mix cucumbers, onions, and salt. Allow to set for a couple of hours; drain and rinse with cold water, drain again. Put mixture into a large stockpot and add the vinegar, water, sugar, spices, and bell peppers. Allow the mixture to come to a boil but do not actually boil. Put into clean hot canning jars and seal with hot lids. Be sure lids seal. When sealed, you will hear the lids pop and the centers will slightly indent. This may take a few minutes. Any jars that do not seal should be refrigerated.

Enjoy!
