One sunny afternoon, my wife and I were relaxing in the chairs on the back porch of our new home and enjoying the peaceful view. We could see the Deep Run Lake, which adjoins our property, just beyond the trees. Then with a quiet fluttering of wings, to our left, and much to our surprise, a pure white bird about the size of a dove, flew in, landed and settled itself on one of the rails of the nearby fence. The beautiful white bird just sat there looking at us and all around for at least twenty minutes, then it flew up, past the green leaves of the trees, away and out of our sight.

We have lots of birds that gather here to eat from the bird feeders on the edge of our porch. But, this is the first time we’d ever seen a pure white bird like that. It’s presence made us think it must be an angel from Heaven in the form of a bird. Why did we think that? Let me explain.

Back in October of last year Hurricane Sandy caused our waterfront home to be flooded with over four feet of water. The inside of the house and everything in it was water soaked and ruined. With the help of our family, we cleaned up the mess and threw out just about everything.

We thought we’d dry the house and then move back in, but within a couple of weeks we saw mold growing in the walls. We used dehumidifiers to try to control and get rid of the mold, but it kept on spreading. Mold spores, we learned, can cause people to get sick and have lung problems.

Eventually, we decided to just move out and live somewhere else. After living with our daughter and her family for five months, we found an affordable house in Cream Ridge, NJ, about 25 miles inland from our old washed out waterfront home in Toms River.

Now, we are quite comfortable here and we constantly praise the Lord for making what seemed like a disaster at the time of the hurricane, to actually be a blessing. This new place is comfortable, it is on a small lake and all of the appliances were included as well as lots of nice furniture that the previous owner sold to us for a very low price. Our new home is in a small retirement community (called Deep Run) and everything we need is nearby.

Since we are Christians, we believe the visit of that white dove-like bird was God’s way of sending one of his angels to look at us here in our very comfortable new home. Then, as the beautiful white angel flew away, we are sure it flew back to the Lord with a report that Terry and Doris Weber now have a good place to stay and – as two of his favorite kids – we’d stay here, in his care, for the remainder of our lives here on Earth.

Do Your Promises Take Over the Commitment You Made to Yourself

Do Your Promises Take Over the Commitment You Made to Yourself
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Joan_Silva]Joan Silva

Do you find yourself exhausted, working too many hours and still not getting things done? Are you constantly behind on your to-do list and the list keeps growing? Did you forget to add you to the list?

The ever growing to-do list. It seems it is never done and each day gets longer and longer.

What if I told you this is the way it is supposed to be? What if your to-do list is never supposed to get done? Is that as shocking to you as it was to me when I first heard it?

What was revealed to me was to just relax because you are never meant to be done. Period. Instead, we are meant to grow, thrive and expand. We are here on this planet to create, express and share our divine gifts. It’s all about our creative juices. And as you create, your list grows. You have new ideas, desires and wants… the list grows. You think of new ways to play… the list grows. You have a new business idea… the list grows.

Okay, you get the idea. And yet, the list is daunting and let’s face it, you still have tasks to accomplish in the day or all hell breaks loose somewhere. After all the kids still need to eat, the dog still needs to go for a walk, the car needs gas, groceries to buy, bills to be paid and the clients need attention.

AND have you ever noticed that most of your to-do list is about someone else or promises made to something besides yourself?

Yep, I get it. There are things that MUST absolutely be done today. How do we handle all of this and still remember to add ourselves to that list? Not to mention, what about friends, family and connection? Where do you fit that all in?

This very topic came up for discussion with a client in a recent coaching call. She had been on an extended business trip where, as a healer, she helps special needs children. Her work is in high demand as she has had great success in helping children with cerebral palsy gain more movement in their lives and children with autism actually talk for the first time. She travels all over the world and the United States to help those families who need her healing touch. This is very gratifying work for her and she gives her all when she is working with each child.

However, her list of things to get done grows. As she travels and helps others, her own list doesn’t get done or is put on hold and in the process she seldom, if ever, gets on that list herself. When she returns home she is drained and overwhelmed by the list of things she must accomplish and get done.

As you may have guessed, she doesn’t find the time very often to fit in friends and family. Her time and energy is given over to the powerful healing she does for others. In the process she has given over her time, energy and talents to others and seldom to herself. She calendars clients but not herself.

This is very common with women and even more so for creative, entrepreneurial women. We are so busy doing it all for everyone else that we bypass ourselves.

So what do we do instead?

There are three things that I find work for me… that is if I remember to take a moment and actually engage with these ideas.

1. Take a moment and notice your attachment. There is a reason you are running around doing everything for everyone else and not for yourself. Stop and take a moment and allow the real reason you do this to come forth. Often it is an attachment to some sort of outcome and most times it falls into one of three areas… The first area is a deep need to be loved and accepted. The second, is a desire to feel safe and secure. And the third, is low self esteem. Once you notice the deeper reason you can practice being unattached in those situations which frees you to let go and have a different experience.

2. Let go of the desire to get to the destination. It was an eye-opening revelation to me that I was so focused upon the end result that I was not enjoying the journey along the way. I realized I was meant to enjoy the journey not just get the list done. That made life way too hard along the way. It was time to let go of the attachment to my “to-do” list and learn to just enjoy the ride. In other words, enjoy the journey and stop focusing on the destination!.

3. Put yourself on the to-do list. Have you ever noticed you do not put yourself on your list? Here’s what I have found… you will never enjoy life to the fullest if you do not consciously, purposely and strategically put yourself on your to-do list. Yes, take out your calendar and make an appointment for yourself.

One final thought and then I hope you’ll rush to your list or calendar and add yourself to it…

I didn’t share with you that the concept of “you never get it done” really does free you up to just enjoy the journey. It allows you to relax and let go. After all if it never gets done then it’s time to let go of the tight reins you have on the outcome and just simply enjoy the ride.

Oh, and as to my client… she emailed me today and said her client cancelled their appointment today and she had the rare opportunity to just pamper herself. She was emailing me from a local coffee shop, sipping and enjoying!

Keeping Your Salads Safe From Bacteria That Cause Food Borne- Illness

Food can spoil quickly during the warmer months. Even fruits and vegetables. Take the necessary precautions to keep your food safe with these helpful tips.
Keeping Your Salads Safe From Bacteria That Cause Food Borne-Illness
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bonnie_R_Giller]Bonnie R Giller

During the warmer months, food can spoil quickly therefore it’s very important to handle all foods, including fresh produce like fruit and vegetable salads, safely to prevent possible food-borne illness. Since many meals happen outdoors in the spring and summer (think Memorial Day and July 4th barbecues) there is often a greater chance for food contamination, especially in places away from home (for example-the local park), where there is minimal access to refrigeration and washing facilities.

The following are helpful tips from the Food and Drug Administration to reduce the risk of food-borne illness from fresh produce.

• At the store, purchase produce that is not bruised or damaged. If buying fresh cut produce, be sure it is refrigerated or surrounded by ice.

• At home, chill and refrigerate food immediately. After purchase, put produce that needs refrigeration away promptly. Fresh whole produce such as bananas and potatoes do not need refrigeration. Fresh produce should be refrigerated within two hours of peeling or cutting. Leftover cut produce should be discarded if left at room temperature for more than two hours.

• Wash hands often with hot soapy water before and after handling fresh produce or raw meat, poultry or seafood.

• Wash all fresh fruits and vegetables with cool tap water immediately before eating. Don’t use soap or detergents. Scrub firm produce, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush. Cut away any bruised or damaged areas before eating.

• Wash surfaces often. Cutting boards, dishes, utensils and counter tops should be washed with hot soapy water and sanitized after coming in contact with raw meat, poultry or seafood. Sanitize after use with a solution of 1 teaspoon of chlorine bleach in 1 quart of water.

• Don’t cross contaminate. Use clean cutting boards and utensils when handling fresh produce. Use one clean cutting board for fresh produce and a separate one for raw meat, poultry and seafood. During food preparation, wash cutting boards, utensils or dishes that have come into contact with raw meat, poultry or seafood. Do not consume ice that has come in contact with raw products.

• Use a cooler with ice or ice packs when transporting or storing perishable food outdoors, including fresh fruits and vegetables.

• Wash pre-packaged salads before use. Don’t assume that because food is prepackaged it is ready to eat!

• Even if you don’t eat the peel of a fruit or vegetable, such as melons, it is still important to wash them. Bacteria from the outer surface can be transferred to the inside of the fruit or vegetable when you cut into them. Discard the outer leaves of leafy vegetables before washing them.

Make sure to take the proper steps in caring for your food to prevent the risk of food-borne illness. Hope you enjoy a safe and fun spring and summer.

4 Quick Tips for Successful Weight Loss

Hey guys, in this article you are going to read about how to successfully map out your weight loss plan by setting easy, attainable goals. After you read this article you will have full confidence in your ability to figure out how much weight you want to lose, when you want to lose it by, and how to go about making habit changes in the way you eat and train.
4 Quick Tips for Successful Weight Loss
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Louis_V_Sica]Louis V Sica

#1: What’s the Plan, Boss?

So you got a new gym membership and some cool new shoes to wear, but now what. You have been going to the gym for weeks now religiously but have yet to notice any difference in your body. Well let me ask you this, what’s your goal? How much weight do you want to lose? When do you want to lose it by?

As a personal trainer I’m always asked from random people in the gym about which exercises work which muscles or which cardio machines are best. It absolutely blows me away how many people are more concerned about what exercise works the chest or arms the best, rather than if their workout is going to be beneficial for what they want to achieve. Most times it’s not.

Look guys and gals, some things in life you can wing it through and get by… like a driver’s test or a college exam. But, when you take on the commitment (and that’s exactly what it a solid fitness program should be) like joining a gym or hiring a personal trainer you need a plan. If you don’t have a plan you will not be successful or your success will take forever… FOR-EV-ER.

A fitness plan, just like any other plan, is the road map to your success. It acts as a guide and a motivator to ensure that you hit your goal on time or beforehand. If you do not know where you want to go how do you get there? You won’t, you are going to become one of the many thousands of “gym-zombies” that get a membership with great intentions, but are not aware of what they need to do to accomplish their weight loss goal.

Now the first thing goal you need to set is a weight goal… so if weight loss is your goal, ask yourself how much do you want to lose? Most people are pretty comfortable with 15 to 30 pounds, so let’s set it there. That’s actually a lot if you think about it… that’s like 2 dress sizes for all the women reading this.

Now the next question is, “When do you want this gone by?” Now, let’s be honest first and foremost… there is no “miracle diet” that will have you losing 20 pounds in 2 weeks or something crazy like that. Secondly, do not be someone who has no set time limit to be thinner by, than in my opinion you are not even trying to be successful and you are wasting time.

There are TONS of events throughout the year to prepare for like Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving, summer vacations, spring weddings… hey, you can even aim for Halloween if you have some cool costume you want to sport. Just pick one, commit to the date and get started.

#2 Support the Cause

Having a strong support system could definitely mean the difference between success and failure. For example, you get a great workout in and you feel top of the world. Now you go home to see your significant other and kids eating some pizza or Chinese take-out… messes with you, huh?

It’s really hard to maintain a healthy weight loss goal when people around you are not respectable of what you are trying to accomplish. If I could give a quick tip for here is to get your family members on board… let them know just how important it is TO YOU to get in shape. You are doing this to improve yourself and feel better about YOU.

Even get the family involved, go out for walks as a family, take a class with your spouse, get things done together and it will bring you closer to your goal without as much headaches.

If the family does not want to get involved, there are also many gyms or fitness studios offer group fitness classes. You will be in a group environment with like-minded people all striving to get to the same overall goal. I think the most important take-away here is that you don’t have to go it alone, there are people, like yourself that want to get that stunning body, or better

#3 Build the habit

The real secret in weight loss or any goal to change the way you look is all about changing habits more. A sample 12 week fat burning diet is not hard at all to find on the internet or in any health and fitness magazine. But what people do not understand is that any body-builder, fitness pro, athlete that eats that way TRAINED TMESELVES TO… FOR YEARS!

In order to eat like someone trying to seriously lose weight and fat you need to train yourself to… just like training in the gym. You have to change certain habits about your eating and lifestyle in order to be successful… and that’s what people do NOT want to hear.

But the truth of the matter is that to make your weight loss dreams (and that’s how they will stay unless you really start letting this article sink in) become reality, they have to SACRIFICE. But ask yourself this… are you willing to sacrifice just a little bit of the simple pleasures you take in now, for a better body tomorrow? It doesn’t even have to come down to a better body, better health in general should be the ultimate goal.

My first recommendation on this area is to throw out all the junk in the house (I can feel you looking at me crazy right now, but it needs to be done). My rule is if it os not there, you wont eat it.

My second recommendation is start writing down everything you eat for at least 3 days, what this will do is visually show you your current eating habits and what you need to start changing in order to be successful

#4 Commit to change

Now just to touch on #3 weight loss is all about changing out bad habits and putting good ones in that compliment your weight loss goal. But before we do this, you have to commit to the change in lifestyle.

For instance, you have to commit to go to the gym and get at least 45 minutes of solid training when you have had a hard day at work because you know after the workout, you are that much closer to your goal. You have to commit to maybe staying in on some nights during the week or weekend to get some sleep for the next training day.

Get the idea? All successful people in the health and fitness, whether it be bodybuilders or the typical soccer mom that just lost 20 pounds of fat and looks fabulous became that way by committing themselves to the change that is required in this type of lifestyles.

Now the change is not going to come overnight. It did not take you 3 weeks to put on 30 pounds nor will it take you 3 weeks to get it off. The weight will not go without one so be ready, be proud to be doing something about it, and good luck.
